Pre/post tests

Hey,

I am trying to wrap my head around how Validity can be used for pre/post checks. My understanding is that pre/post checks allow to compare state before and after configuration changes on a device. For example, I want to know that if we had 17 BGP neighbours in pre-, we also have 17 in post-.. Or if number of advertised prefixes per neighbour is within +-10% delta when comparing pre- and post- snapshots. See Jsnapy docs for comparing elements. Is anything like that possible with Validity?

Hi,
Validity is about comparing intended and operational state, not before and after. Anyway you still can write a test which checks the number of your established bgp neighbors is equal to some number (e.g. 17). If your test(s) are passed before the change you're good to start it, if they are still passed after the change, you're good to finish.

yeah it definitely looks more like a compliance tool in and out. It's just you have pre and post in the documentation, so I was curious to know if I am missing something. In my case, I can not know if it were 17, 34 or 55 BGP sessions before, so they always depend on the previous state. I guess pre and post checks can be done differently. Thanks for clarification!
