Working MPD Android client suggestions?

Am I doing something wrong but 4 of the most popular (first to appear in list) MPD client apps from the Play shop either
a) crash the app
b) stop updating the song title
when the track changes, from the client or iniated by the server. Windows and Linux clients work fine though. Issue persists with Groovebasin 1.4.0 (Ubuntu xenial package) and with the latest Git (using node v0.12.18)

@andrewrk is the only maintainer of this (great) software but unfortunately he doesn't have time anymore to really develop/maintain it.
It's a shame, because if the MPD implementation was really well working, I'm sure that it could attract more people/developers to the project.
