I Don't Understand these UI Options?

Hello,

I'm using Hyprland 0.49, waypaper 2.6, and swww 0.10.3

I looked around on the Git here and Wiki, but I didn't see any mention of the swww ui options;

duration - angle - fps - steps

In the context of using swww from the cli line I understand, I don't understand the purpose of these sections in waypaper?

For me, these options don't stick, I assumed when I saw them, you adjust them all to your liking and save, then whenever you run waypaper the settings are always there sticky and you simply change a wallpaper, or use these for Auto Changing the wallpaper in the background, without having to run waypaper.

If I change any of these options and type something in, everything is gone when I restart, and back to the way you see it in the screen shot.

Also Zen Mode doesn't stick when I check mark it, or use Z. I assumed when you set it, it stayed sticky, and would always open in Zen Mode, rather then setting it in the config.

One last thing, I don't understand what use_xdg_state = True does, other than putting some config options in another place, forgive my ignorance.

Hi, to save those swww options, you need to change the wallpaper manually once, i.e. just click on some wallpaper, then they'll be saved in the config and will be used every time waypaper is used with swww (with gui or through cli). At least that's the intended behavior, let us know if it doesn't save these options for you.

The purpose xdg state is somewhat weird :) it's made for users of NixOS and other systems where configs are immutable, so there have to be another config in another location. On normal distributions you don't need that option.

I changed some options; wipe - angle/45 fps/60 then I clicked on an image and clicked exit, when I reopened waypaper, the angle of 45 and fps of 60 where gone in the UI, but the options are in the config.

So it would be nice if the UI saved and showed the options for; duration angle fps steps. Because when you restart it, you then see these words again.

Also simple always opens images at the blink of an eye, fast, it's suppose to be a faded slower effect in swww, I'm not sure using waypaper it can be changed.

Something else I am now noticing, after playing around with the settings, before, when I logged out and logged back in, with this setting in my hyprland config;

exec-once = waypaper --restore

The wallpaper was simply restored, meaning, I'd log in, and just see my wallpaper there as the background image, just like when you log into KDE, Gnome, Cinnamon, Xfce, and just see the wallpaper.

Now, when I'm logging in, the transition types is playing, and it didn't do that before. hmm

If I also pick a different transition and leave the duration angle fps steps alone, and it shows these words in the UI, then I click an image and exit, I notice in the config it is not clearing the duration angle fps steps.

There should be an option in the UI to clear these settings, and to me, what makes sense, is when reopening the UI, you see the settings you changed, and if there aren't any settings, then you see the words, which would indicate the settings are blank, make sense?

Yes, you're right that UI probably should display the set parameters, and it makes sense, but on the other hand, it's nice to know what each field does, and I don't want to waste space to make extra labels for that. I mean, the fields are never really blank; they have default values from the beginning. I'll see what can be done to improve it

I hear ya, don't want to make you have to work more...

But, if it's not a problem, I guess maybe, if we leave the fields empty, then the words revert back.

The other thing too that needs changing, I noticed if I put in something, and then later leave it empty and save, it still keeps the past settings in the config and won't remove them.

OH, what if these fields have drop down menus where we just pick the Values, and then the names always stay listed at the top of the drop down, or something along these lines...
