Weaknesses of/Issues with current AnVIL Study Pages

  • Consent groups are hard to interpret.
  • “Not applicable” should be changed to “Consortium-access only”
  • You cannot click to learn more about a given study, unless you click “apply for access” and go over to dbGAP
  • Do not do less than dbGAP ...
  • Cannot see cases vs. Controls, population composition, etc.
  • Mendelian – possibly not descriptive enough
  • Should link or reflect the data model (or data dictionary) used and their variables
  • Provide the list of available variables and phenotypes, possibly use PhenX
  • Provide project description by cohort, if many cohorts are available in a study
  • Track and explain dataset versions
  • Make most fields searchable, with auto-completion available when possible.
  • Link study pages to “special publications” (meaning have workspaces with primary and secondary data, analysis workflows, etc.), for example for the T2T workspace and its publication, and any upcoming CCDG or HGRP ‘marker’ publications.
  • How to facilitate data browsing and searches, while balancing between open and controlled access metadata and phenotype data
NHGRI to look into: Documentation about how granular the clinical metadata can be revealed publicly

Miscellaneous Ideas

AnVIL Staff should consider how to facilitate the generation of and support the posting of supplementary files for landmark studies (e.g., T2T)

Overarching:

  1. What is our goal for these study pages? What should one be able to accomplish?
    • Users should be able to determine whether a study is useful to their scientific interests/question
      • Disease area / Clinical data
      • Type of molecular data
      • Number of cases vs. Controls
  2. What type of information should be displayed?
  3. Where do we get this information? (Study Registration? dbGaP Study Pages?)
  4. What flexibility do we want to remain in the system?
