Use case

Hi, I use apollo for a lot time but I have very vigorous problem. It's mapping apollo's response to Entity. I think that someone else has this inconvenience too and everyone does the mapping manually. I suggest to add map to entity feature

Unfortunatelly, I haven't such experience in this field, but i suppose that using codegen it will be achieved

Hi! By "mapping to entity", are you referring to storing the data into Room for example? We don't have anything like that but we do have a built-in persistence solution with the normalized cache.

No. I mean mapping to domain data classes or to another DTOs

There are many possibilities in this area, that will probably heavily depend on your project's architecture.

Just a couple of thoughts: if your domain classes are an exact mirror of the Apollo generated models, then automatic convertors can certainly be generated (or these models can be used directly, they're data classes without any dependencies). If not, it will probably be hard to automate anything that can work for any project.

Overall, this feels a bit out of scope of the Apollo library, but could certainly be a dedicated library on top of it.

Thanks for your answer. But what if Apollo requests will be generated not by graphql code but written kotlin code using data classes?

That is a possibility but a big departure from the current philosophy of the library.

This would be very far from the initial value proposition of Apollo Kotlin and we have no plans to add this at the moment.
