if it's the more efficient way to organize the meetings, ok :) |

Update: I just bought a Zoom Annual account with 4 licensed users, so it's cheaper ($693.93). Happy to update the plan when needed: https://opencollective.com/asyncapi/expenses/88057. Thanks, everyone for approving this expense. My finances are a bit happier now 😄 |

@asyncapi/tsc_members tl;dr I need your approval to purchase a year-long license for Zoom. The cost is €139.90 per license (user). In total, I need to spend €1119,20 for the entire year for 8 licenses.
Why?
At the moment we use @fmvilas account where he pays on his own for his and my license. He is a cool guy, but we should get an official AsyncAPI account and use open collective money for it. Especially because we reached the size where we need more than 2 licenses. At the moment any meeting requires my or Fran's presence.
At the moment we have the following meetings that require zoom:
Meetings like
Thinking out Loud
orLet's talk about contributing
are streamed directly from Restream.ioWe also need to enable infrastructure for more meetings. And we need to enable option that folks like me or Jonas or Missy, can have a coorganizer that can run meeting if the main host is not available, without sharing password 🔐
Summary: We start with 3 licenses, but also automatically, for existing meetings like community meeting and 3.0 spec meeting we need to appoint backup organizers, so 2 licenses more. so pretty soon we need 5, and we have approval from TSC for 8 licences, and therefore have a buffer for future initiatives.
Alternatives
There is no better initiative really. Zoom is something we battle-tested. We also recently confirmed that it can be connected with our Restream account (so we can stream to our social accounts every meeting). We also confirmed that their live transcription service is also good and pays back as accessibility improvement.
I explored a bit LFX (something like Linux Foundation Services). They are building something for us and other projects that long term can replace our costs:
Pretty cool things, but huge disadvantage:
They extend services, and every few months enable more. So there is a light in a tunnel that maybe we will pay for Zoom licenses only for one year, and next year we will be able to switch to LFX Zoom services 🤞🏼
Open source discounts?
