Could we make the frontend of the store an open source project? i would be greatly interested in contributing. The backend should not be open source of course for security reasons. |

Store updateAfter approving the quote, Pinnacle Branding started printing the products that would be in the store. When we started to receive the first invoices, we saw that the costs did not coincide with those in the quote. It was a mistake made by an employee of the company who should have included the taxes and storage costs. So I have requested an updated quotation with all the missing taxes and costs. You can check it in this document. The total quote is $22,733.88. The storage cost will vary depending on the number of products we have in storage. The first month will be the most expensive, $323.10, which should be added to the monthly maintenance of the store, which is $106.40. And the total taxes are $1,805.11. To sum up, we will spend about $25,000 instead of the initial $21,000. I asked @derberg if we could actually afford this, and yes, we can. We chose this company because it was recommended to us by the Linux Foundation, as they and other foundation projects work with them. My proposal is to try one year with them and, in one year, analyze other options in case we could improve their proposal. So, @asyncapi/tsc_members, I would appreciate it if you vote YES or NO accepting or not the new quote. Thank you! |

Hi @asyncapi/tsc_members,
Since the current webstore only covers some of the needs of the Initiative, we thought of investing in a new webstore. For this, we need your vote for the approval to spend $20,938.07 (the current balance is $82.355,56). The price includes building the store, products, integration of the webstore products and storage. In addition, there would be a $106.40 monthly cost to host and maintain the web store. You can check all the information in the quote. The illustrations and colors of the products shown do not match those of our brand. It's only indicative. You can check some products with approximate colors and prints in this document.
How and why this company and these products have been selected?
Following these needs, we started looking for a better way to deliver swags and merchandising items. We consulted several companies: Monday Merch, Swag, Swag Magic, Printfection, Blinkswag and Pinnacle Branding). After several meetings and a comparison between their services and prices, the best option is Pinnacle Branding, the Linux Foundation proposal. Regarding the cost of the products, they are not the cheapest, but they assure us that they work with high-quality materials. We could check the quality through some test products they sent us.
In order to choose the products that will be in the store, a community survey was conducted. The store's design was selected, prioritizing the simplest and more operational option. Something similar to this store.
We looked for an illustrator to create an illustration for some of the products in the store. You can see the result here and the invoice here. We hope to have a wider range of designs in the future.
Swags for AsyncAPI programs
After launching the AsyncAPI programs, such as ambassadors, mentors, etc., we needed an efficient system for sending swags. Until now, the management had been done on a case-by-case basis. Thus, the new store might serve as a platform for sending swags through coupons, delegating the management of most of the process to it.
The cost of these kits without shipping cost would be:
How does product shipment work?
The company in charge of the deliveries is FedEx, following their economy/international category (price includes duties and taxes).
Regarding shipping costs, they will depend on the size of the package, the weight and where it will be shipped to.
What will happen to the money earned through the store?
The final price of the products will be 20% higher than the cost price in order to make a profit. The money generated by the sale of products from the store will be invested back into the store. Thanks to these potential returns, we will be able to keep buying more products for sale and continue selling.
Please, vote YES if you approve the proposal or NO if you disagree. Thank you! 🙂
