Calling for Votes: Choose the Hosting Platform for our Interactive Learning Paths!

We have an important decision to make, and we need your help! 🙌 As part of our Google Season of Docs 2023 project, we are already working on creating engaging and interactive learning paths for AsyncAPI. 📚🎮
Now, it's time for a quick vote on the hosting platform. We have two options on the table:

1️⃣ Killercoda AsyncAPI profile
2️⃣ Linux Foundation interactive content

Content Authoring	- Content creation can be done using Killercoda's inbuilt tools and templates. - Publishing content on this platform is possible in various formats. - No Embeddings	- Content creation can be done using various tools including text editors and authoring tools. - Collaboration features are also available for working authors and subject matter experts. - Course management is possible through an integrated Learning Management System (LMS). - Embeddings present
Reader Flow & Content Access	- Standalone platform is available with direct content access on the Killercoda website. - Readers browse and access the entire content directly on the platform.	- Dedicated learning platform or integrated LMS is also available here. - Users are able to access the content through the Linux Foundation Learning Platform website or the LMS portal. - Account creation and direct access to learning paths and courses is simple and easy.
Technological Requirements	- Front-end: Markdown Files. - Back-end: Python/Ruby/Node.js, Django/Ruby on Rails/Express.js, RDBMS. - Additional dependencies for file uploads, multimedia, and authentication. - Bash scripts/commands are used to install tools and requirements to run projects like AsyncAPI	- Front-end: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React/Angular/Vue.js, UI libraries/frameworks. - Back-end: Python/Ruby/Node.js, Django/Ruby on Rails/Express.js, RDBMS, LMS frameworks. - Additional dependencies specific to the chosen technology stack.
Interactivity	- The platform is highly interactive with an integrated development environment (IDE) access. - Users can write code, test examples, and see real-time results directly from the platform itself.	- Guided instructions are present for users to follow independently and help them use the platform efficiently. - Detailed instructions and examples are provided so that concept understanding is easier.
Discoverability	- Specialized platform catering specifically to the AsyncAPI community. - Discoverability depends on the targeted audience also.	- Established reputation in the open source and technology space. - Larger user base and higher discoverability. - Caters to a broader audience across various technology domains, which can result in a larger user base and higher discoverability.
Publishing the Same Content	- Offers content creation and publication using their own tools and templates. - Specific focus is on the AsyncAPI community.	- Also allows authors to use various tools, including text editors and authoring tools. - Provides collaboration features for authors, subject matter experts, and course management through an integrated Learning Management System (LMS).
Cost Comparison	- FREE Membership: Use all scenarios for just 1 hour, open 1 scenario at a time and create public scenarios to share with others. - PLUS Membership: Use all scenarios for up to 4 hours, and open upto 3 scenarios at a time. Some available options are ~ 9.99 USD / 1 month, 39.99 USD / 6 months, and 69.99 USD / 12 months	- Varying costs for different Linux Foundation Courses as per our technical requirements. - No cost for hosting.

Can you clarify a bit more characteristics for these platforms as it is hard now to vote really:

• how authoring of content works for both of these platforms? what technology, and processes are involved
• what is the ultimate idea for the reader flow to access this content? will they for example have to go to Linux to read, or to Killercode to read? or will they be embedded in the website?
• what are the costs? it would be great to include such information, if there are any costs to approve
• can we actually publish the same content to both?
• are they both really "interactive"? afaik LF platform goal is to enable enrolment, learning path tracking and stuff like that, but the content is static afaik, I mean you read instructions and perform steps on your own, on your local environment, not like with Killercoda
• how discoverable Killercoda is comparing to LF, how many users know about Killercoda and will find content there, and how it is with Linux Foundation?

I'm suggesting the Killercoda for its exceptional user interface and design. However, there might be a case where people learning on the Linux Foundation website come across an AsyncAPI course and become interested in diving into it, as fewer people may be aware of Killercoda.

Hi, Kim here from Killercoda. Writing because there was post in our Slack.

Everything mentioned above seems correct, but for "Technological Requirements" there are some remarks:

• creators create their "frontend" content in Markdown, no html/js etc
• creators create bash scripts/commands to install tools and requirements to run for example asyncapi

I see you already have a (test) profile. In the end you create step-by-step text based tutorials using Markdown for users to follow. Users see that content on the left side. On the right side they have access to a VM with Ubuntu/Docker/Kubernetes or what your scenario needs.
Whenever there is a code block in your Markdown, it's possible that the user copies or executes it with one click.

Everything you create will be hosted in a Git repository (public or private) that you own and that's attached to your Killercoda profile. You edit/update scenarios by pushing to that repository.

If you have the resources you could post your content on multiple platforms for probably best visibility.
Once you created your first scenarios we're happy to feature you on our main page like we do for other tech as well.

Really thanks to @wuestkamp for thorough input. I have an experience with killercoda env building project for keptn. It works seamlessly for interactive tutorials.

Looks like we do not "choose which platform to use" but basically "which platform should have higher priority" 😄 as there are pros and cons for each. Since the content we will work on is open source, nothing is blocking us from reusing. So if eventually let's say majority of votes to go Killercoda, nothing really blocks us (anyone in the community) to pick that Killercoda content and make it usable also on https://www.edx.org/school/linuxfoundationx, or even have it also as static instructions on AsyncAPI website (if Killercoda cannot be embedded)

📢 It's time to conclude the public vote, as it has been open for over a month, allowing the community sufficient time to finalize their votes. With a majority of votes in favor of the Killercoda platform, we will now shift our focus towards creating the 2023 GSoD Learning Path in Killercoda. Once the content is developed in Killercoda, we can repurpose and share it on the Linux Foundation platform.

It's important to note that the scope of the 2023 GSoD work solely involves implementing it on one platform. Adding the content to the Linux Foundation at a later stage will be a separate task, independent of the 2023 GSoD writers' responsibilities.
