Overview
The AsyncAPI Meetups serve as a platform for community members to connect, share knowledge, and discuss topics related to AsyncAPI outside of the main conference events. These meetups intend to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the AsyncAPI ecosystem.
Hosting a Meetup
To host a meetup, individuals must fulfill the following requirements:
Be part of the Conference Coordination Working Group: One should be a Conference Coordination Working Group member to be eligible to host meetups, as it ensures that all events align with the broader goals and objectives of the AsyncAPI community.
Planning and Management: The meetup lead/host will be responsible for planning the meetup, managing the Call for Proposals (CFP), and coordinating speakers. The process should be done within the conference working group to maintain information and coordination with other groups such as design, marketing, and conference website maintainers.
Guidelines for Meetups
When organizing a meetup, the following guidelines must be adhered to:
Code of Conduct Compliance: All attendees and organizers must follow the AsyncAPI Code of Conduct, as it ensures a safe and respectful environment.
Advance Notice: Meetups must be announced at least three months prior to the intended date. It will allow time for coordination with designers, marketing announcements, and participants ample time to prepare and plan their attendance.
Company Sponsorship: Companies interested in sponsoring a meetup can do so by hosting it at their office or providing equipment for streaming or recording the talks. We recommend that the sponsoring company maintain and operate the equipment during each meetup. Overall, the partnership can provide logistical support and enhance the experience for attendees.
No Sales or Marketing Talks: Sales or marketing presentations are strictly not allowed. Meetups should be informative and focus on education, knowledge sharing, and community engagement.
Steps to Organize a Meetup
If you're interested in hosting a meetup, please follow these steps:
Open a Discussion: Start a discussion thread on the conference-website outlining your meetup proposal. Tag the
@asyncapi/conference_coordination_wg
members to ensure their awareness and involvement.Share on Slack: After opening the discussion with the details of your meetup, share your proposal in the #wg-conference-coordination Slack channel. It will help gather feedback and support from community members.
Coordinate with the Working Group: Engage with the Conference Coordination Working Group on planning, including CFP details and speaker arrangements.
By following these steps and guidelines, you can successfully host an engaging and productive AsyncAPI meetup that contributes to the growth and development of our community. Thank you for your commitment to fostering collaboration within AsyncAPI!
