Fix the process() function

Need to restore the operation of the process() function to its original intended feature.
This is a long requested item from many contributors and users.

I need the process() function because I made a derived class of the Switch class , and that derived class uses the process function. It is for the e-kit which uses an (analog) 2 wire communication for all switches on an ebike.
