Clients spawn on the wrong monitor

Alright, so I am unsure if this is a dwm-flexipatch "issue" (or feature), but I know a lot of people who contribute to flexipatch are very well versed in dwm. I have used dwm plenty in the past and just returned to Linux and dwm.

I have three monitors; one 1080p on the left, one 1440p in the center and one 1080p on the right. HDMI, DisplayPort and DVI respectively. Whenever I spawn a client, such as a web browser, it always ends up spawning on a random monitor, often those without any clients on it. Is there any patch which would make it only ever spawn clients on the one my mouse is present on?

No, I do not have that patch enabled, though perhaps I should because it's behavior I'm more familiar with anyway.

I would like to add, further, that this behavior is a little bit inconsistent, and seems to change depending on whether a client is present on a monitor (and which monitors those are).
When there is a client on the main monitor, and this client is focused, the client ends up spawning correctly on the main monitor. When my cursor is on the left or right monitor, it is seemingly random whether it spawns on the left or right monitor, but it never seems to spawn on the monitor with existing clients.
I would also like to mention that this behavior is present on my very old dwm build, though I cannot say for certain which patches were applied since by the end I just started implementing features I wanted on my own.

I don't see anything obvious in your patches.h list that would cause something like this.

The only thing that you have there that affects the order of the monitors is the sortscreens patch, but even so I don't think that it should impact what monitor a client spawns on.

I'd say most likely you may have a client rule that may interfere wrt what monitor it spawns on. You can share your client rules if you are comfortable with that, and what window you are spawning.

Normally when you move your mouse cursor across to another monitor that monitor should be come the selected monitor (i.e. selmon). A new window not subject to client rules should spawn on the selected monitor on the currently active tags.

I was asking about the focus-on-click patch because that disables the functionality that selects the monitor automatically when you move the mouse cursor across, and you have to actually use a mouse click on the background to select that monitor. But since you are not using this patch it must be something else.

Rules are the dwm-flexipatch defaults, as I have not yet added any rules apart from the existing ones. From the looks of it, none of them should cause this behavior, it only seems to control whether they are floating or not. Then there is of course the Firefox default, which should affect nothing because I don't use Firefox nor Gimp. Any dmenu defaults are also irrelevant, not using that either.
I will probably test with a clean dwm copy, if no patches are used and I still get this behavior, it's likely either something with my particular system or something intentional.
