Currently, "Register" link is in the heading of the login page as in the image above.
I just visited IBP for the first time (with the intention of joining) and could not find that register link. I did come into the login page expecting that there will be a register button there. But something about it being with the heading made me skip it. Maybe it is because through constant interaction with the web I'm habituated to not finding any useful link in the heading? It maybe just me and this issue maybe invalid. But, just showing how twitter/facebook implements the same.
There is a prominent create new account button as well as a sign up link at the bottom.
Again, there is a sign up link at the bottom.
I think the reason why this is so is that many people jump to the content of the page (which is the username password boxes) and starts reading from there, thereby missing the links in the heading.
Perhaps FB and twitter have done enough A/B testing to confirm this logic?
