Successful Resurrection of BirdNET-CoreML

Hello everyone!

I wanted to take a moment to share a recent milestone: I’ve successfully converted the 6K audio model to Apple’s CoreML format. This effort was inspired by a fork of @kahst’s repository, which appeared to pursue a similar goal some years ago. While I’m not familiar with the reasons the original project was taken down, I deeply appreciate the groundwork that was laid—it provided valuable context as I worked through the conversion.

I’m also excited to share that I plan to integrate this model into a native Apple Watch app. Many thanks to those in this community whose past contributions have helped make this possible. I hope to have a public beta of the app available soon, which I'd more than love to solicit feedback from anyone here that is interested.

Nice! I just recently set the original repo to private because I assumed that nobody would be interested :)
We originally planned for the BirdNET iOS app to be a native CoreML app, but back in 2020 the spectrogram layer conversion just didn’t work. We even reached out to the developers at the time, but there wasn’t a fix, so we ended up dropping the CoreML idea. Awesome to see it finally working now—great job! Let us know when the Apple Watch version is ready, and we’ll add it to our showroom.
