Need help? Ask Frigate's new AI chat bot #16408

An excellent idea: this will be less embarrassing for me to use, rather than pestering people (you and Nick) with what must seem like stupid questions! I have just got GenAI going using Gemini model ("2.0 lite-preview") and I expect that will engender a flurry of questions from me. |

I asked the AI bot if booting to runlevel 3 would be better than booting to desktop but normally having the attached monitor set to a different HDMI input. AI bot said it didn't know. Yay for the AI bot being honest lol! I'm running on an RPI5 with the Hailo8 AI HAT, 6 IP cams, 2 (much older ones) of which "will be deprecated" due to their packets missing their timestamps At runlevel 3 my RPI5's cooling fan is a whole lot less noisy, so I figure my mess is a lot easier for the RPI5. I can't think of any reason runlevel 3 would cause any issues, and so far Frigate seems to be working fine. I can still access my frigate site and 've had a few videos show up for review, so all seems well. Are there any contraindications to frigate-ing at runlevel 3 on weak hardware such as RPI5 in an attempt at decreasing demand on my little box? I've been fussing with VLLM and an Nvidia RTX 5070ti for like a month now (n00b-tip: Don't run out and buy a brand new Nvidia GPU on release day unless you're buying it exclusively to play video games on a Windows box) and realized CLI-only helped somewhat in that situation. Figured it might help my rpi5 w/Frigate too, and it does seem to help! Just kinda wondering if folks who would know better than me do know better and maybe I shouldn't do that, go CLI only, for stuff that's all about video processing. One the one hand, booting to CLI only for me, the human, seems like it would release resources for other purposes. On the other hand, those resources are video related and maybe video processing apps depend on drivers and utilities that potentially maybe might not get invoked at runlevel 3 and nobody ever thought "what happens if some fool uses runlevel 3" which might result in silent failures, possibly/maybe/ sorry if this is really stupid. |

We've recently set up a new chat bot trained on Frigate documentation and Github discussions. If you're looking for fast help, give the chat bot a try.
You'll find an "Ask AI" button now at the bottom right corner on the official documentation site:
https://docs.frigate.video
You can engage the AI in two modes:
The Ask AI mode is an interactive chat with the AI where you can post questions, your config file, log error messages, etc.
The Search mode will search the documentation and Github discussions.
If this has been a helpful post, give it an upvote and thumbs up. If you have any questions, leave them down below for us!
