goose is designed as a general purpose engineering assistant that can handle both code and non-code tasks, while Claude Code is more specialized in code-specific operations. goose is highly extensible, allowing you to use any LLM of your choice, not just Anthropic's. In fact, you can even use Claude Code as an LLM Provider inside goose! so basically goose gives you everything Claude Code does plus local control, more flexibility, broader integrations, and full automation.

@endolith interestingly - I was using openinterpreter before goose (and cursor)! so was some inspiration there, but have not kept up to date with it (main reason is the AGPL 3 licence means I can't really use it day to day) but was fun early on. |

I still use OI regularly, but it's unmaintained, and I'm trying to figure out if it's more worthwhile to learn another tool or to try to get OI maintained again. Does Goose do the same thing? Chat interface with ability for AI to write code and run it in a persistent session, calling various tools to accomplish tasks semi-autonomously, etc? |
