Document clearly how hints are used

With a new package of real-time visualization tools in Bluesky, the algorithms to select the plottable data should be made clear. The predecessor relied on the hints dictionary to augment the search algorithm but it was not clear how these hints were used.

Whatever algorithm is used here should be documented clearly.
