cannot open URLs with wayland/sway composer

I'm trying to run gurk in foot (a wayland terminal application) under sway compositor (in x86_64 Linux)..
I can select URLs, but hitting "enter" has no effect. (I'd expect it to open a browser tab?).

sway is akin to a tiling window manager in the classical X11.

I also cannot select (with the mouse) the URL, or anything at all, in gurk - not sure this is by design or it's another bug.

Which terminal emulator are you using? Does it work for other links in the terminal (outside of gurk)?

EDIT: Well I've just read your post again, you're actually also using foot!

I'm also using sway with foot, and links work as expected using foot's "url-mode".

And for the app's "built in" way, if I select a message with alt+j / alt+k for example, and press enter, it also opens the URL (since #99)

Not sure if this is what you mean, but afaik links are not clickable with foot.

it certainly does not do anything to URLs which are jpeg files. My workaround is to open them in browser, as I know full file names, but that's of course an extra hurdle

It also works for local files for me, and images.

Afaik it uses xdg-open, maybe your env is not configured properly?
You can try to open an image with xdg-open directly, and you check the default with xdg-mime query default image/jpg for example

I think this is on purpose, the author is mainly focus on keyboard usage.
But I guess you can open a new feature request to be able to select some text with the mouse! (it might not be trivial depending on how this is implemented though)

it's the 1st time in many years I see a terminal app which has this sort of "no mouse selection" (mis)feature.
Perhaps it's specific to the (rust?) toolkit used by gurk, I don't know.

Pretty much all the TUI apps I use don't have mouse selection for text (you still can click some elements!), most of them are in Go or Rust I believe

Anyway, really don't hesitate to open a new feature request and see what the author says ;)
