New messages flooding the client on launch #444

When opening gurk, I get a notification for every single message that has been sent to me since the last time I used gurk on the same device. This also happens if I have read all said messages on a different device already.
Similarly, the "Channels" list keeps updating while gurk is trying to catch up an all these messages. This can take more than twenty seconds, and in the meantime I cannot use the channals list without risking the selected chat to change on its own.
