Reorganize the shared storage for the pipelines

We're not yet handling the shared storage correctly. Basically, the source, scratch (i.e., output) and the data areas all need to be shared, as probably is some of the code, but we aren't yet clear about which parts of the code (mainly pancan). We're trying to avoid too many small files on glusterfs, because it doesn't really like them.
