FYI, in Widevine's latest Quarterly Update newsletter of June 2025 --- that I receive because I enrolled to the Certified Widevine Implementation Partner (CWIP) program --- I can read this :

Desktop Browser Update

The desktop browser CDM will be removing license persistence capability. It will only support a streaming license, not an offline license.

This capability will be removed starting with the Chrome desktop browser M140 release due on September 2, 2025.

Idk how this can impact Chromium, and possibly Electron-based apps ? I have asked the same in the CWIP mailing list...

I'm not sure this is public information yet, so I can't comment much at this time. I can say that anyone who has been holding an EVS account prior to a couple of months ago will have received an e-mail from castLabs, surveying certain topics related to the use of persistent licenses.

I did receive this notification and survey email in March indeed, but I hadn't seen it... I'll send a message to https://castlabs.com/contact/, since we depend on this feature (Widevine persistent licenses). But I imagine that Google has already firmly made up its mind about this ...

Could PlayReady be an alternative @khwaaj ?
