Short question: is there a key file that matches utility_id_eia to utility_id_ferc1?

Context:

• I'd like to match utility service territories from EIA 860 to financial information from FERC Form 1.
• This seems probably simple in the PUDL environment, but can't find the key file between utility_id_eia and utility_id_ferc1.

Follow-up: finally found the page I was looking for here.

Just to check if I am understanding this correctly:

• core_pudl__assn_ferc1_pudl_utilities gives utility_id_ferc1 --> utility_id_pudl
• core_pudl__assn_eia_pudl_utilities gives utility_id_eia --> utility_id_pudl

Yes, that's right -- utility_id_pudl is used to link EIA and FERC 1 utility IDs.

Note that there's also a second layer of linkage that has to happen on the FERC 1 side, because there are 2 separate epochs of FERC reporting. From 1994-2020 they distributed data in DBF files with integer IDs for respondents, and starting in 2021 they switched to using XBRL, and an alphanumeric ID for the respondents that looks like C0001234. So the originally reported IDs utility_id_ferc1_dbf and utility_id_ferc1_xbrl are linked by (a PUDL assigned) utility_id_ferc1 which is what you'll find in e.g. the core_ferc1__yearly_* tables, so you can link together data across both the DBF and XBRL reporting epochs.

If you're working with the EIA-861 data, note that we haven't integrated that data as deeply as the EIA-860 and EIA-923, and there are a substantial number of utilities that only show up in the EIA-861 data. But in general the ones that show up in FERC 1 will also show up in EIA-860 (and thus these IDs)
