wondering why RethinkDNS is not anymore updated since many month (v055n - 9 Jun, 2024).

Does that mean, all issuus are fixed? Or that project is discontinued? Or that additional donations are required?

+1. AmneziaWG #1437 (comment) was implemented in November, but is still unreleased. If there is something blocking it, can you provide a stable enough commit where manual build is possible?

We intend to have a "monthly" automated release setup (the code for it is done, but we haven't activated it yet). Our sole focus is on getting v055o out (as it has been delayed by over 8 months!)

But: as mentioned above, code contribution (bug fixes or new features) isn't even this project's most pressing need. It is sponsorship (we've been paying up to $1000 every month for over 2 years in infrastructure costs) and translations / documentation.

How can money help speed up the development? Sounds like the developer just does not habe enough time to do it all himself.
Would this not be worth a try to look for a second developer?

The speed the development money required is in the order of £50k / yr.

But that's not what I said. I said, our most pressing need is money to keep the infrastructure for Rethink running, which at peak costs ~£1000/mo.

I'm a fan of on-device blocklists as energy-wise (important for a smartphone), it's probably the fastest and cheapest way (no actual cellular connection). It's interesting, what's the % of app users uses on-device and if promotion of on-device can help to reduce costs (dunno what % uses the app from total amount of rdns resolver users)

Our largest userbase (by 10x) is on Play Store, where on-device blocklists isn't allowed (and so, force disabled for everyone) due to Google's Terms of Service.

maybe dissuade those rethink users away from Play Store will help reduce the rdns server cost
