v055u: Memory & Battery Critical issue

I'm just an ordinary user who has been using rethink for quite some time now , Its only recent that I updated rethink , I was on 1 yr old stable build previously , Therefore its safe to assume this issue is only with newer builds of rethink (including current latest) . The memory consumption of rethink keeps increasing as time passes on and reaches continuous 2.8 GB+ [even with logs off , all non essential settings and blocklists off and even dns is set to system dns with fallback dns also set to system dns therefore not even DNS is being used in rethink , Only a single proxy on always on + lockdown mode (not even multiple)] , Most of apps network being blocked in firewall with system using around 5 GBs of ram and 2.8 GBs with rethink and around 800-1GB of critical system services (eg: Google play services , App enhancement services , Android library and other background services) , The phone only has around 1.8 GBs of ram left (and games are impossible to play in those conditions because even while idling the phone feels warm [When I have temporarily fixed the problem it does not feels warm meaning its only because of continuous heavy resource consumption by rethink]) , Even for non gamers : The phone feels warm (even with nothing in foreground) and it does not resolve on its own . This issue was not present in older versions of rethink and the only way to fix it is to restart the phone , No other way - Rethink's ram consumption goes back to around 200-300 Mbs and your device is not consuming or rather devouring battery life anymore . I've tried different combination of settings within app but nothing worked for me . Currently on oxygen os 16 (android 16) , Oneplus 12 .
How to replicate :
Just use a proxy and wait for around 24 hours till the ram consumption reaches ~2.8GB continuously .

If you are comfortable doing so, will you tap on About -> Stats -> General and then tap "Copy" and email the result to me? This is to find out just what kind of proxies and network configuration enabled on your device.

We probably should use ActivityManager.getLargeMemoryClass to inform the amount of memory that the app can allocate (needs to be at least 400MB for Configure -> DNS -> On-device blocklists to work).

Besides, like you suspect, there's a possible memory leak in the latest versions, which we haven't yet gotten to the bottom of.

Think we're too aggressive with allocations, especially with UDP. I've dialed that down a bit, and hopefully, the next version is a little bit conservative with RAM use.

That said, there could be other memory-related issues, but our preliminary analysis didn't turn up anything untoward for the Kotlin (app) side of things. As for the network engine (firestack), well it has always been lax with memory use.

1)Firstly , As mentioned I'm not using :
Configure -> DNS -> On-device blocklists as my current dns provider already handles the same + It saves memory so it likely isn't culprit .

2)I've tried multiple proxies or a single proxy while testing it in different scenarios , The end result after atleast 24 hours of internet usage is the same .
But on versions such as 5.5o , This issue was even worse as the peak usage went to 3.2-3.4 GBs but its now stable at 2.6-2.8GBs currently so that's an improvement . As mentioned , Restating device gets it back to 300-600MBs for atleast another 10 hours (keeps increasing after that till it reaches its current Max at 2.8GBs as time passes on starting from 160 MBs in my case) .
Again , Rethink settings mostly does not affect it , I've tried logs on/off , IPv4/auto , Stall on network loss on/off , On device blocklists on/off and several other changes but the result was mostly the same .

I think we have found the code that causes high memory use, and fixed it, too. I must admit that 2.4gb sounds super high. On my Android, the peak Rethink has hit is 780mb (which is also high!). How are you measuring memory use (which adb command or app)?

Ideally, current versions of Rethink shouldn't consume more than 300mb... I remember that Rethink v052 used ~160mb.

I've been using android's default developer options for watching memory usage which I believe is correct since heat generated by device and battery consumption matches with active memory usage (Attached screenshot) .

Edit/Update :
Previously had millions of ErrSnd (IP/UDP) but that was mostly from temporarily blocking all UDP + “block plain-HTTP connections: true”. Even after turning both off the memory leak persists at the same scale , Mostly stuck on the same 2+GBs .

Edit/Update 2 :
I found activities such as downloading accelerates this memory usage even after recent device restart + Memory usage persists even when download is over .
