we need to be able to turn swissdata objects into opendata harvestable formats. opendata enthusiasts are our natural partners. Hence we want to make collaboration as simple as possible. I am not necessarily saying it has to be the sdtools package, especially because xml would likely introduce a {xml2} dependency. Not a big deal for devs, but that's a package with an OS level dependency. Maybe xml / turtle is another package in the swissdata ecosystem maybe not. will probably create an experimental branch here soon.
