@plopingo No
The GitHubDesktopPortable\App\GitHubDesktop\Update.exe file will keep it up to date

Else, run it, go on Help -> About GitHub Desktop and you can manually update from there

The update function worked perfectly until 3.0.5, but seems not to work for more recent versions. Update to versions 3.0.6/7/8 are no longer happening as it looks like the Squirrel updater can no longer locate the release on central.github.com/deployments/desktop/desktop under that GUID. The non-msi (GitHubDesktopSetup-x64.exe) can be be found at https://central.github.com/deployments/desktop/desktop/latest/win32 which after unzip can be installed in the portable directories. Alternatively, performing a non-portable install and manually copying the files from AppData\Local\GitHubDesktop to the portable ...\App\GitHubDesktop directory also works (tested with 3.0.8).
