Current demo is too slow to use under Linux under Firefox

Attempting to use the demo in the firefox web browser 25.0.1 under Ubuntu Linux 13.10 is too slow. There is a long delay proportional to the number of characters you type before anything appears on the screen. Press 1 key, it displays after 1 second. Press 5 keys, it appears after 5 seconds.

Under Chrome Version 31.0.1650.63 under Ubuntu is fast enough to use.

I can confirm this. The text operations I'm doing appear to be extremely slow specifically on Ubuntu+Firefox. I'm open to suggestions for what to do about this.

Also would gratefully receive any more detailed info about exactly where the slowdown is occurring, e.g. is it the text rendering in the canvas?

yes. it seems to be the rendering of the text in the canvas. Unfortunately, I was unable to use this editor in my project and moved on to fixing my own, limited, contenteditable based one.
