Is smtp server neccessary? (docker)

Currently using focalboard which has been deprecated. Looking for alternatives and have been through most open source options.

This look great, but it was not easy to find.

I am not very tech savy and a simpler installation method would probably be nice and appeal to more.

Working solo, i don't need a smtp server for my project management (i think)

Could this dependency be ignored when installing?
