Consider certification of PRONOM as a digital public good #113

Description

@ross-spencer

Reading through the digital public good standard today it strikes me that PRONOM, or at least its standard could strive to be certified as one.

Looking at the list of certified projects PRONOM might be analogous to projects such as Mastodon and Wikimedia, e.g. SDG16 for peace justice and strong institutions (supporting vital digital archive needs) and SDG17 with global partnerships enabled by an open standard and global submissions : https://www.digitalpublicgoods.net/registry

It could take a bit of work, and looking at the standard it may be more applicable to a near-future development of the service, although the existing PRONOM might also warrant certification.

I suspect many of us already recognize PRONOM as a public good, more worldwide recognition might drive conversations with software developers to think about PRONOM and format identification more, as well as invite more submissions globally.
