A command that presents options from an external api to the user

Question

I'm new to Discord so I hope this isn't a stupid question.
In the above Slash command builder I am letting the user enter an event ID to display its details. The events are returned from an external api.
The problem is that the user has to know the event ID or has to type out a very long event identifier.

Is it possible to create a command that presents or displays the event ids? i.e. makes it easier for the user to select an event ID

Autocomplete can fix your issue (if I've understood the problem correctly). Or if you've a fixed numbers of ids also less then 25 ids then u can use choices too.

Keep in mind that autocomplete can be a rather big issue, depending on the external APIs rate limits. You will have to send a response with an updated itemset to the user whenever they stop typing and your application receives a webhook/websocket event for it.

Some APIs are built for exactly that behavior (algolia, for example), some are not. It may be beneficial to instead poll the API on a set interval or subscribe to updates via a websocket connection to cache all available items.
