Run Analyzers is missing in Visual Studio 2026 #7781

This issue has been moved from a ticket on Developer Community.

[severity:It's more difficult to complete my work] [regression] [worked-in:18.0.1]
n Visual Studio 2026 Community Edition, the “Run Analyzers” menu command that existed in Visual Studio 2022 has been completely removed. This was the only reliable way to surface warnings and errors that do not appear in the Error List once their file is closed. It was also the only way to ensure that all // TODO: comments in a solution were shown without manually opening every file in the project.

I understand Microsoft’s assumption that this command is no longer needed because analyzers are expected to run continuously on all files in the solution. However, full-solution live analysis imposes a major performance cost—especially for large solutions or users without high-end hardware. In practice, removing the manual “Run Analyzers” command eliminates the only performant workflow for forcing full-solution analysis on demand.

Just noticed the same in Enterprise version; “Analyze” not visible in menu bar… but can still be triggered by ALT+F11.

However you do not get the result you did in 2022… “Build” / “Build+Intelligense” / “Intelligense” do not behave as in 2022… so no “ToDo”

Also notice that if you use SonarQube extension; they have just removed support for solution analysis sigh

Compared to VS 2022 Community (v17.14.20), VS 2026 Community (v18.0.2) has lost the whole Analyze menu from the main menu bar, without any reason (this is not documented in Visual Studio 2026 release notes). In other words, this is a regression.

Same thing for the following Solution Explorer context menu commands:

  • Analyze and Code Cleanup > Run Code Analysis on Solution,
  • Analyze and Code Cleanup > Run Code Analysis.

I can’t understand why these two have been removed. They are still very valuable tools!

Please bring them back!

After looking for a bit longer, consulting, with some other users and Microsoft’s chat bot did I find it. It seems MS scattered all the analyzer menu items throughout the UI. I found all but the one I needed before posting this. I asked Microsoft’s own chat bot where they moved it to, and it told me that Microsoft had removed the one I was looking for because it said the code analyzer runs all the time, making the menu item redundant. I did eventually realize analyze code had been moved to the build menu, only after looking in nearly every menu and the options settings and four or five other things that Microsoft’s chat bot had recommended. After seeing it wasn’t under Analyze in the toolbar editing tool did I give up and post this thread.
