Let users submit news and events?

It is not apparent on the site how to add anything to the events or news lists. I can understand that we may not want a free-for-all on there, but it seems like we should be encouraging the community to contribute to the site by submitting events and news. Events in particular should be easy for people to come up with and simply announce on the site. I find it horribly frustrating to be working on community events and have no way of adding them to the official community event list. For news, we could simply ask people to propose a news item, and then have it run through moderation before actually publishing.

I second the suggestion, both for the reasons Addison mentioned and also to encourage more content in the website and to transition the site more to a community site.

The steps I think is to decide if we like the feature, and the see who has the resources to outline a solution for it?
