Description
One thing that annoys me a lot with WMA is that shapes get more squished the further they are from the equator. Examples:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Centre_for_the_Performing_Arts_%28China%29. Zoom into the infobox map until you can see a circular green lawn to the south of the building. Now zoom in the WMA map until you can see the same lawn.
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svalbard article, click on the WMA icon next to Longyearbyen in the infobox.
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandrayaan-3, click on the top right WMA icon. Obviously not-round craters.
Maybe some stretching can be done to approximately revert the squish on the display side, like stretching the y by a factor of cos(map center lat)? That would not require extra work on the server, and should work well enough until we get really close to the poles or become super zoomed out.
