Summary

Provide a user-configurable option within the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extension settings to disable its fingerprinting resistance features. These features can modify browser properties in ways that conflict with bot mitigation and website security systems.

Motivation

Avoiding Bot Detection Issues: Users frequently encounter aggressive bot detection systems (like Cloudflare, Akamai, PerimeterX, etc.). The non-standard values reported by the browser due to DDG's fingerprinting resistance can flag the user as suspicious, triggering CAPTCHAs, challenges, or blocks.

Additional context

The current fingerprinting resistance mechanisms modify browser properties, resulting in values that deviate from typical browser behaviour and can be detected by fingerprinting scripts.

I've managed to find a workaround that achieves this. It involves directly accessing an internal configuration page within the extension itself.

Steps Taken:

1. I discovered and navigated to an internal configuration page specific to the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extension. (In browsers like Firefox, these internal pages are often accessed via unique moz-extension:// URLs generated upon installation).
2. Within the configuration data, I located the setting controlling the fingerprinting protection.
3. I modified its value from "enabled" to "disabled" and applied the change.

While this workaround functions, it is not ideal for average users. However, if you believe this workaround is sufficient or if no action is planned regarding adding an official toggle, please feel free to close this issue/request.
