If we use .qcow2 images it's means that we are nesting VM file system into Host file system.
I am not sure about the real performance implications, but i tend to think that attaching direct SSD volume to the VM we can get the max performance out of it.

From the other side i should be aware of the complexity of managing LVM and potential disasters.
