"You can't see earlier messages" in spammed and "cleaned up" rooms, element seems confused by redactions and state changes

Steps to reproduce

1. Stay in a spam attacked room, like #foundation:matrix.org today
2. Spammer comes, bots redact, ban, kick.
3. Checking the room causes a lot of wait (updating the states and redactions)
4. Element stops refreshing and claims there is no history apart from 2-3 refresh turns.
5. There seem to be no way to force "better" refresh

Outcome

What did you expect?

Either Element displays proper room content (that is preferred),
or element has the ability to update its broken view of the room by user request.

Eventually, I would like to see the room history.

What happened instead?

"You can't see earlier messages" - and cannot go beyond.
