Make direct messages look more like traditional DMs

I looked to see if this topic has already been made, and I don't think it has.

I think that the DM-style adopted by most Mastodon clients is not a great user experience, and it may be better to steal imitate, say, Twitter, or even a standard SMS application's style.

Part of the reason Mastodon “DM” posts do not look like chat threads is they are still posts. Like you can reply to a post in a thread with a private “Direct” one.

I decided not to dm someone on Mastodon but use a different method of contact, because there is so little visual feedback what you are about to post is really private. That is probably not so much an Elk issue than a Mastodon issue, but Elk might be able to address that in its UI.

i self-host my instance so i only have to deal with one side of the snooping problem, but i still see why that visual difference may be quite helpful
