Investigate difference / incompatibility between MySQL JDBC driver versions

We have wanted to update its default JDBC driver, but actually, JDBC drivers often have silent incompatibility between versions. We have hesitated to update the "default" JDBC driver there, then. (E.g. default options, ...)

To let the update actually happen, we need to investigate/understand the silent incompatibilities.
