modbus "last error code" cannot be read in a single request

DESCRIPTION

Hi,
we are trying to set up a Modbus communication between EMS-Gateway and B-CON from ICONAG.
It works pretty good, but entities of type string are difficult to realize.
B-CON expects more than one data point, not a single response of "last error code" of type "string" with a register offset of 36 and a register count of 28.

Do you have an example for the right Modbus communication?

Question for @mheyse, the author of Modbus integration. Unfortunately, I don't have enough knowledge in this area. Moving this to a discussion.

Seems to be something B-CON specific. Using modscan or ioBroker-modbus i can read the string in a single response.
