What is the purpose of downloading Applie firmware?

Even without using "pypy get_airtunesd.py" Airtuned is dicovered but vlc player does not launch on mirroing.
Issue behind it seems to be soket issue. I do not understand the purpose of downloading Apple firmware. Can some one please explain ?
