Default mode on startup?

I would like if there was a setting to enforce a theme (dark/light) on startup.

I use a light theme for my Desktop environment, but my terminal is usually dark. The best solution would actually be if the theme was selected based on the terminal color (in my case Konsole), but that's a hard issue as far as I understand.
Thus it would be awesome to force a mode on startup of nvim (and the update-interval not automatically resetting the mode of course) and a command I can run by hand to make the plugin continue "normally".

Would you consider adding such functionality?

hmm, would being able to run it disabled be sufficient? then u could toggle it with something like :AutoDarkModeToggle?

The best solution would actually be if the theme was selected based on the terminal color (in my case Konsole), but that's a hard issue as far as I understand.

One might want to adopt this feature from Neovim's built-in implementation, which computes the luminance of the terminal background color (if reported) and sets the colorscheme variant accordingly.

Before, this was done only once on startup, but as of this commit an autocommand is included, which will continuously react to background changes on some supported terminals (currently including Contour and Ghostty). This will probably be part of the next stable Neovim release, though the autocommand will only keep working as long as the background option isn't changed by the user (or any plugin).

Writing this, I realize this might also solve some over issues:

1. This will probably work over SSH and similiar remote shell sessions as long as the (local) terminal responds to OSC 11 (relevant to Works over SSH? #30 and More theme detection methods? #45)
2. This is probably a good fallback mechanism to have when the query command fails from the start (relevant to D-Bus timeout results in unexpected theme changes #55)
