I think this is a great color theme switcher plugin. I maintain my own at https://github.com/4e554c4c/darkman.nvim.

I think these two plugins have slightly different niches. Mine, for example supports default mode on startup #43 and works without polling (instant dark mode switching), but is linux only and requires compiling a separate command.

Perhaps we should both put a "comparisons" section into our repositories to point toward the other?

I would also note that https://github.com/vimpostor/vim-lumen/ is also an alternative that avoids polling.

I've had to move away from auto-dark-mode because recent versions of GNOME or xdg-portal-desktop have gotten slower at responding to read requests and even a few vim sessions with 250ms poll intervals have caused my environment to become unresponsive. I was looking into writing a lua plugin that would monitor without polling, but the gdbus approach works fine for now.
