Paraphrasing from one member of the community:
One of the most difficult things we are trying to overcome is the vastly different technical metadata provided by each of the different scanning or camera equipment we use. Some provide quite a bit of metadata and other none at all. We just added a new scanner to our workflow and found they put all the technical data into one field, so when it gets processed through another piece of software it is all lost.
My question is if there are any thoughts or plans to require or suggest a core set of technical metadata that can be recommended to companies that generate the images.
Some of the core fields I am trying to standardize across all capture devices are:
- Date Captured, not date of content
- Device
- Software
- Operator
- Source type; https://iptc.org/std/photometadata/documentation/userguide/#_digital_source_type
