A ValidationError can occur at the point of integrating a new or changed description with a pre-existing description. The data model enforces certain constraints. For example, a description is always associated with an identifier (a Catalogue Record ARK) which uniquely identifies the catalogue record from which the description is sourced. A catalogue record cannot identify itself using an identifier already used by another catalogue record. Catalogue Record ARKs are expected to be unique.
