I'm getting an input delay when connected by relay, is this avoidable, what is the tradeoff to get instant player input for clients?

Hey @BeardedBry, ideally you shouldn't get any input delay for your own player - that's what client-side prediction is for. Do you get the same delay if you run locally with simulated latency? If so, local player actions are not predicted, possibly a wrong authority setup.

For simulated latency, you can use Clumsy on Windows, and netem on Linux. There's a script for the latter in the repo.
