Description
Hello Galaxy team,
I would like to request the installation of a new Galaxy tool on usegalaxy.org.
Tool information
- Tool name: gwtc_analysis
- Tool Shed repository:
https://toolshed.g2.bx.psu.edu/view/danielsentenac/gwtc_analysis - Source repository:
https://github.com/danielsentenac/gwtc_analysis
Description
This tool provides workflows for exploring and analysing Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC), including:
- catalog statistics
- event selection
- sky localization searches
- parameter-estimation visualisation
It is intended for GWTC exploration and scientific analysis by the multimessenger astronomy community.
Execution environment
The tool is fully containerised and runs using:
docker://danielsentenac/gwtc-tool:v0.3.1
On public Galaxy servers, it is intended to run via Apptainer/Singularity on HPC backends.
Data access model
The tool requires access to GWTC data and supports multiple access mechanisms:
-
Galaxy:
Uses GWTC datasets available locally on the Galaxy instance (as dataset collections). -
S3:
Access to public S3-compatible object storage (requires outbound network access). -
Zenodo:
Download of public GWTC datasets from Zenodo (requires outbound network access). -
GWOSC API:
The event_selection and catalog_statistics modules may query the GWOSC public API for metadata
(requires outbound network access).
Available Galaxy data collections (already present)
The following GWTC dataset collections are already available on usegalaxy.org and are directly usable by the tool in Galaxy mode:
Parameter Estimation (PE) collections
- GWTC-2.1-PE — 54 HDF5 datasets
- GWTC-3-PE — 36 HDF5 datasets
- GWTC-4-PE — 99 HDF5 datasets
Sky localization (skymaps) collections
- GWTC-2.1-SKYMAPS — 154 FITS datasets
- GWTC-3-SKYMAPS — 128 FITS datasets
- GWTC-4-SKYMAPS — 370 FITS datasets
These collections allow full operation of the tool without any external data downloads.
Tests and Galaxy-mode integration
The tool wrapper includes functional tests executed via Planemo.
Due to the manageable size of the GWTC datasets, Galaxy data collections have been created and will allow the tool to be optimised for performance. However, the final wiring of the tool wrapper to consume these collections has not yet been tested or validated. Assistance from the Galaxy team is therefore requested to correctly connect the tool to the existing collections in Galaxy-mode.
Network-enabled backends (S3 / Zenodo) are currently exercised by automated tests.
Contact
Please feel free to reach out if any adjustments, clarifications, or Galaxy-specific integration changes are required.
Best regards,
Daniel Sentenac
