What determines the # of results?

I ran a test query for "Restaurants" in New York and got ~70 results back.

Clearly there are more than 70 restaurants in NY.

What determines how many results get returned? Is there a way to control this?

also better split into smaller regions:
restaurants in blooklyn

or smaller districts
