Option to list pages up/down instead of scrolling (similar to iBooks option) #15

Consider option to list pages vs. scroll/continuously move (similar to iBooks option).

Similar functionality implemented in Android app: volume up/down scrolls page up/down (with necessary buffer for "incomplete" lines). Currently only double-tap scrolls approx. 1/3 of page down.

Maybe as a first attempt to solve this, it should suffice to "set up" current "simple tap" functionality -- tapping the screen in bottom part will scroll it approx. 1/3 of page down -> enlarge that (if possible) to 2/3 or 3/4 of page...

A lot of work with doubtful result. I wouldn't add everything our users come up with :) But we can:

  • try to enlarge double tap scrolling offset
  • use volume up/down for scrolling - it is technically possible (I can handle that, I already tried in another project), but there's a great chance Apple won't approve this - it's explicitely stated that volume buttons should be used only for setting the volume or as a shutter for photo apps.

It's useful when somebody uses the breviary with a projector to show the prayer for large community. (I know priests who uses the website with projector. I don't know if anybody uses and iPad version with projector. So it can be a theoretical usefulness only.)

I appreciate volume up/down buttons for scrolling in Android app... I would like to have similar feature on iOS (let it be volume buttons or better single/double-tap behaviour).

We can try volume up/down buttons (it can be done rather easily), but in all likeliness it'll get rejected by Apple. They try to keep volume buttons for setting volume or as a shutter button for camera apps... but we can try it :)

I wonder if anyone's using iPad with a projector in any other way than using Apple TV... but I still didn't get why it's better to use buttons here instead of plain scrolling. To make the steps always the same? So that he doesn't have to take care how much he scrolled?
