Not being in the USA, but being very interested in the way this expresses data, would it be possible (read easy) to make this more general so I could have a data frame with a column variable equivalent to whree you have the US states initials (e.g. maybe Australian suburbs, geographic regions, etc) and produce the similar coloured grid result (i am thinking of e.g. population, average wages, number living alone, etc)?

Thx for taking the pkg for a spin and especially for taking the time to post an inquiry!
I'll be able to follow-up a bit more later this week (daughter #2's wedding tomorrow) but a few others have riffed off of this to do something just like that and there's a new-ish pkg that is able to take shapefiles/simplefeatures of things like counties, cantons, states, even the globe and grid them (rly well). I'll be able to find that and drop a link here soon-ish.
