select_next_item complete parenthesis and arguements?

Is there a way to have select_next_item also include the completion of the arguments of a function similar to how confirm does?

I can get it to trigger only in the case the entire name of the function was already complete for example

prin -> select_next_item -> printf
printf -> select_next_item -> printf(const char *restrict format, ...)

(note you have to do some weird behavior with exiting insert mode then going back into insert mode for the full completion to work)
