There are many cases in which we want to quantify the time spent on a habit. The application could facilitate these use cases by specializing habits that can be measured in time and including the option to enable timers.
This way, when the timer is enabled, tapping on the habit cell to change the value would function as a play/pause switch to control the timer and automatically accumulate the time. If, for example, a frequency of Every day is specified, the timer should accumulate the time during the day between multiple play/pause switches and should reset at the start of a new day.
To avoid overcomplicating the interface for creating a measurable habit, the first habit creation screen could allow users to choose between three options:
When setting up a time-measurable habit, the user can choose whether or not to enable the timer. If it is not enabled, the measurement is entered manually in the conventional way.
By specializing the screen for creating time-based habits, a TimePicker widget can be used to more quickly specify the time and unit (seconds, minutes, hours). In addition, different timer modes could be considered.
In order for the timer function to be sufficiently flexible, it might be useful to be able to specify the daily reset time for timers in the general settings.
